Are You Completely Prepared For Remote Working?
Remote Working

Remote working is now not just trendy, but it is now being strongly recommended. Government and major companies are giving these guidelines as to stay at home and work remotely due to COVID-19 (previously called 2019 Novel Coronavirus).

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new virus that had not been previously identified in humans. Wherein this virus causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever and in more severe cases, pneumonia. The new coronavirus spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose. There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19). But we can reduce risk of infection if we:

• Clean hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water

• Cover nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or flexed elbow

Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms

With these given preventions, remote working is really a good idea. As per WarnerMedia News and Sports chairman Jeff Zucker said in a memo:

"For the rest of you, we encourage you to use today to make sure you are completely prepared for remote working. It is unclear how long this guidance will be in effect, so you should assume that it may be long term."

Since there’s no definite time that this coronavirus will be gone, what are the things that we need to be completely prepared for remote working? Here are some:

REMOTE WORKING TOOLBOX

Of course with remote working, you will need tools like your computer that meets your needs, fast and stable internet connection, and a reliable cellphone. Not just these tools, but you need to take advantage of technology when it comes to software or programs that will help you to be more productive and efficient.

CHOOSE YOUR WORK SPACE

Thinking of remote working on bed or couch? Nah. It’s possible but it is recommended to dedicate a specific room or surface in your home to work. This is to avoid sleeping or too much relaxation while working. Just kidding. But it can really happen.

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE

At first, you can be focused on the first days or weeks of remote working. But in the long run, you might feel you’re alone and still think what may be happening in the office. Instant messaging and videoconferencing tools can make it easy to check your coworkers or boss, know the things that are expected from you and remind you how your work is important.

VIRTUAL HAPPY HOURS

Since you will be remote working for an indefinite time, you will miss your coworkers, who are still in the office or also remote working like you. Another way to take advantage of technology is to use it to share stories, celebrations and even a break with a cup of coffee through Skype. This will build your teamwork as coworkers or with your boss.

These are just some tips to be completely prepared for remote working. You may have other tips or checklists, we’d love to hear from you.

Happy remote working!
